Green Power Development and Energy Efficiency Development Project Micro-Piling work for Kaluthara GSS to Pannipitiya-Mathugama Transmission Line

The project consisted of Construction of tower foundation for the 132kV Transmission Line Towers for Single in and out connection from existing 132kV Pannipitiya-Mathugama Transmission Line to proposed Kaluthara Grid Substation. Out of the eight (8) tower foundations recommended for deep foundation, one tower location was required for deep foundation system socked to into the basement rock. Therefore it was proposed to carryout micro piling for that location considering the extremely difficult site conditions.

It was used 273mm diameter permanent casing along with 141mm diameter seamless pipe and fully covered with cement grout to form the micro pile. In this location soft soil was counted about 6m and the pile was socked 2m into the hard rock. Vibro hammer attached to the amphibious excavator was used to drive the casing drilling through the soft soil was done by the “Rotary Boring”. Down the hole (DTH) hammer was used to drill through the hard rock.

With the progress of work, another tower location for 2 micro piles working as additional piles was awarded. Altogether, we successfully completed 18nos of micro piles within the time period we received
